This two-channel video was created for Project [BLANK]‘s group exhibition Working Title in 2024. The exhibition was held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in the Bankers Hill area of San Diego, CA. One of the two video channels is projecting slowly shifting colors that mimic the shape of the stained-glass windows of the cathedral. This is projected onto a vertically-oriented monitor with a layer of silkscreen mesh over the screen. The monitor shows footage of a death-metal mosh pit. When the viewer steps toward the monitor and obstructs the light of the projection, the mosh pit footage becomes clear. The piece represents different interpretations of rapture, presenting alternate possibilities for communal joy and comfort while drawing parallels with the violent history of organized religion.
